TheUvac Special Nature Reserve is located in southwestern Serbia. It is surroundedby the mountains of Zlatar, Murtenica, Cemernica, Javor and Jadovnik. Itsaltitude ranges from 760 m to 1322 m above the sea level. The centralmorphological feature of the reserve is the Uvac river canyon valley togetherwith its meanders. Uvac is distinguished by the presence of about 130 birdspecies, the most important of which is the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus),which is also our largest bird. It is a type of vulture eagle, of an impressivesize, with a wingspan of up to three meters. The area of the reserve is alsoinhabited by the black vulture, the Egyptian vulture, the common merganser, thewhite-tailed eagle, the golden eagle, the common buzzard, the short-toed eagle,as well as numerous other bird species.

Inaddition to a rich ornitofauna, the presence of some other rare and endangeredspecies of mammals and other fauna is significant as well, such as wolves,bears, wild boars, foxes, rabbits, badgers, minks/martens… Clean water inwatercourses and reservoirs is the habitat for 24 fish species. The Usac CaveSystem is the largest known cave system in Serbia. It consists of Usac Cave,Ledena Cave, Tubica Cave and Bazdarska Cave and Bezdana sinkhole.
