The construction of the parliamentaryedifice according to the design of the architect Jovan Ilkic began in 1907,when King Peter I Karadjordjevic laid the foundation stone of the future Houseof the People’s Representatives. Due to wars, lack of funds, changes indesigns, as well as the formation of a larger state (Kingdom of Serbs, Croatsand Slovenes), the building was built in several phases. In the last phase, themain designer was the architect Nikola Krasnov, who also did the entireinterior design together with all the elements, such as furniture and lighting.The parliament building was completed in 1936. In 1938, two remarkablesculptures, the work of the famous sculptor Toma Rosandic, were placed in frontof the main entrance to the House of the National Assembly. The author namedthis composition of bronze horses and their bronze tamers “Black horses atplay, and with them great heroes”. The National Assembly is adorned withfrescoes, numerous paintings and sculptures of inestimable value.
