The Temple of St. Sava in Belgrade is located at the place where the Ottoman invaders burned the relics of St. Sava in 1594. In 1895, the Society for the Construction of the Church of St. Sava was founded in Belgrade, and the construction of the Church began in 1935 continuing until April 1941. When the communists came to power after the Second World War, its construction ceased only to be restored in 1985. Due to the wars in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, the works were interrupted again. In 2001, the Society for the Construction of the Church was renewed, presided over by His Holiness Patriarch Pavle, with Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić as the president of the Main Board, and the works continued. The dimensions of the Temple are 91x81 meters, the height with the cross is 79 meters, the Temple can accommodate 10,000 believers. The central dome of the temple is 27 meters high and has an external diameter of 39 meters, there are 18 crosses on the temple (the central one is 12 meters high), and there are 49 bells in the bell tower. The Temple of St. Sava in Vračar is one of the largest and most beautiful Orthodox churches in the world.
