The Petrovaradin Fortress islocated on the right bank of the Danube in Petrovaradin (Novi Sad). It wasbuilt on the site of the previous medieval fortress in the period from 1692through 1780 and was the most modern armed fortress in the Habsburg Monarchy.It is one of Europe’s most significant and best preserved fortresses. It is asymbol of Novi Sad, a true witness of the multiconfessional tradition of theseareas, but also the most attractive part of the capital of Vojvodina. ThePetrovaradin Fortress houses around a hundred art studios, museums,restaurants, galleries… It is also the venue of the EXIT festival, one of themost significant music festivals in Europe. At the foot of the Upper Fortressis Podgradje – a baroque little town, part of Petrovaradin where the RomanCatholic Church of St. Juraj with the monastery stands out for itssignificance.
