The Monastery of Manasija (Resava) is an endowmentof the despot Stefan Lazarevic, located not far from Despotovac. Built between1407 and 1418, it belongs to the style of the Morava School. Manasija wasdemolished several times, when a large number of frescoes were also destroyed.It is assumed that originally there were about 2000 square meters of paintings,but even the part that remains leaves all visitors breathless. Stefan Lazarevićbrought many learned monks from the Holy Mount Athos to Manasija to copy andtranslate church books. Literary and hand-copying activity in Manasija, knownunder the name of the Resava School, was significant in Serbian literatureuntil the 18th century.
