The Monastery of Ravanica is an endowment ofPrince Lazar Hrebeljanović and is located near Ćuprija. Ravanica was completedaround 1386-1388 and stylistically belongs to the beginnings of the School of Morava.Following Lazar’s death on Vidovdan in 1389, his relics were transferred fromPristina to Ravanica in 1392. Since then, Ravanica has been a place ofpilgrimage and a cultural center, and it can be said that most of the folksongs about Kosovo and Kosovo’s heroes were written in Ravanica. During theMigration of the Serbs in 1690, the monks had to leave their temple and,carrying the relics of Prince Lazar, they came first to Szentendre, and then tothe neglected Monastery of Vrdnik, which received the epithet of SremskaRavanica (Ravanica of Srem). Therenovation of the monastery began in 1717, which was later supported by Karađorđe,Miloš Obrenović and their successors. The relics of Prince Lazar weretransferred from Vrdnik to Belgrade in 1942, and only in 1989 were theyreturned to Ravanica, his endowment.
