The Monastery of Žiča is an endowment of KingStefan the First-Crowned, but it was his younger brother Saint Sava who mainlytook care of its construction. Žiča is located in a beautiful valley betweenthe Ibar river and Raška, 6 km from Kraljevo. The construction of the templewas completed around 1220. Seven Serbian kings were crowned in Žiča: Stefan theFirst-Crowned, Radoslav, Vladislav, Uroš, Dragutin, Milutin and StefanDečanski. The Church of the Holy Salvation belongs to the Raška School of architecture, it is built instone and brick and has a beautiful red façade. Due to constant destruction and burning, asmall part of the painting of the church interior was preserved. After theFirst World War in 1919, Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović was appointed bishop ofŽiča and greatly contributed to the restoration of Saint Žiča.
