He completed high school in Zemun, and in 1914 enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.He went to Paris in 1920, only to return there in 1925 and 1928.His work in Paris attracted much attention. In 1930 Sava came back to Šid and devoted himself entirely to painting at home.In 1939, he organized a solo exhibition in Belgrade presenting 410 paintings.In an Ustashas raid on 28 August 1942, Sava Šumanović was arrested, together with a large group of his fellow-townsmen, and shot in Sremska Mitrovica.
